I.T. Features

PINpoint is configured and managed using a browser-based Management Console, which allows an I.T. Administrator to define what information will be made available, to whom, and when. The Console offers extensive customization capabilities to match your organization's requirements, while at the same time keeping the end user interface on the BlackBerry device simple and friendly.

  • Content pushed to BlackBerry users may consist of documents and/or a list of contacts.
  • Documents:
    • PINpoint can collect documents from internal or external systems, and push them to the appropriate end users.
    • Supported document formats include HTML, PDF, Word, Excel, text, images, RSS news feeds, XML, CAP and EDXL.
    • For easier administration, documents can be grouped into collections, which are then assigned (mapped) to Groups of recipients.
  • Define content of contacts list using data fields from:
    • BES database: user name, PIN number, mobile phone number, email address, SMS address, carrier, device model, memory, status, etc.
    • Corporate Directory: attributes from LDAP source (e.g. Active Directory or eDirectory): position, office phone #, location, department, groups, etc.
    • Define overrides to display alternate information, or even hide some of the content (e.g. CEO’s phone number).
  • Content may include browser hyperlinks that pass BES or LDAP attributes as parameters to other web applications. For example, you can include links to:
    • Query your Corporate Directory based on email address (see our cDir application).
    • Display a map based on zip/postal code.
    • Query any web enabled application.
  • Control when content is refreshed on BlackBerry devices, using the Windows scheduler or any other scheduling application that may execute a command or invoke a webservice. Using the default Windows scheduler allows, for example, to push a fresh list "every weekday at 5am", or "weekly on Sundays at 3am".
  • Different content may be pushed to different groups of people:
    • Flexible mapping of Document Collections (documents to include) and Contact List Scopes (people to include in lists) to Recipient Groups.
    • Groups of recipients may be defined based on the value of any BES or Directory LDAP attributes (e.g. push list to "all managers in London", or to "Bell devices with at least 64MB of RAM").
    • Scope of contact lists may also be defined based on the value of any BES or Directory attributes (e.g. include in list "only senior members of DRP/BCP group", or "all devices activated in Canada".
  • Control how users will access the content: through an icon on their BlackBerry home screen, or through their mailbox. You can also specify a different icon for fresh (unread) content, and control when the cached content expires (default is 10 weeks).
  • Detailed log allows you to track push activity. Reporting by date and status (pending, failed, or completed).
  • Supports "push" using traditional BlackBerry RIM Push Protocol, or the new PAP standard (Push Access Protocol).
  • Security:
    • Supports end-to-end encrypted communication: BlackBerry - BES Server - MDS Server - PINpoint App Server - Directory Server.
    • Management Console authentication and authorization against Active Directory domain account or Local Machine account.
    • Supports separate Authentication accounts for LDAP server, BES Server Database, MDS Server, and Management Console.
  • Support for multiple BES servers and domains (Enterprise and NIMS Editions only):
    • Collects and collates contact information from multiple BES servers, even if they are not all part of the same BlackBerry Domain.
    • Content of contact lists can be collected from multiple BES servers.
    • Content of contact lists can also be collected from a linked spreadsheet file, database, or directory.
    • Members of Recipient Groups can also be collected from multiple BES servers.
    • Uses a single PINpoint administration console.
