Mobile Alerts is configured and managed using a browser-based Management Console, which allows an I.T. Administrator to define what services or devices will be checked, using what tests, how often, and who will be notified and how.
The Administrator defines the appropriate health checks for each monitored component. Three Editions are available, featuring the following test types:
- Standard Edition:
- PING (ICMP Internet Control Message Protocol): tests any IP enabled device

- SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol): tests mail system connectivity
- LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol): tests access to a Directory (e.g. Active Directory, Novell eDirectory, etc.)
- Professional Edition: same as Standard Edition, plus:
- FTP (File Transfer Protocol): tests any FTP site
- POP3 (Post Office Protocol): tests access to mail system post office
- IMAP4 (Internet Messaging Agent Protocol): tests access to mail system post office
